A container, case, or receptacle, usually rectangular, of wood, metal, cardboard, etc., and often with a lid or removable cover.

Or so the dictionary says, for woodturners they are seldom rectangular, and often impracticable but we do go with the lid or removable cover bit, and we mostly make them from wood as that is most often our chosen material.

Most of what I make is aimed at the top of your dressing table with jewellery in mind, but not always some are really totally unusable and are made to be viewed from the outside as a sculpture, rather than a container of useful purpose. Though of course you may use it however you wish, I have one in my kitchen with sea salt in it, but then I have an obligation to love wooden things!
